With friends like these, life is never a drag! Sydney, Australia, early 1990’s. Bernadette (Terence Stamp), a grieving, world-weary transgender woman, is going through a rough patch in her life. However, when her drag queen friend Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) receives a last-minute invitation to perform in the backwater town of Alice Springs, she gives herself a break and embarks on a long road trip into the vast Australian outback along with flamboyant crossdresser Felicia (Guy Pearce). As the outrageous trio hits the road in their aging bright-lavender bus, the performers attract lots of attention, receive help from total strangers, and crush gender stereotypes along the way. This riotous and ultimately joyous film is filled with a great soundtrack and an unending array of outrageous costumes, which brought them an Oscar in 1995 for Best Costumes.

Cinema St. Louis and the Hi-Pointe Theatre are thrilled to present this iconic film as a tribute to Pride, the LGBTQ+ community, and to everyone who likes an extravagant bit of song and dance.
